Privacy Policy

The plain-English version of what happens to your info here. Short, because we don't collect much.

Effective October 16, 2026.

Rust Rescue (therustrescue.com) is run by John Altieri. This page explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can do about it.

Newsletter

If you sign up for the newsletter, we collect your email address. We use it to send you the weekly list and occasional news about Rust Rescue. Every newsletter will include a way to unsubscribe, or you can ask us to remove you any time through the contact form.

Forms (contact and Submit a Find)

When you use the contact form or Submit a Find, we collect what you type in: things like your name, email, company, message, listing link, vehicle details and location. If you attach a photo to a find, we get the photo file too. Name and email are optional on Submit a Find.

Form submissions, including photos, are received and stored through Netlify, the company that hosts this site, using its Netlify Forms service. We use what you send to answer you, consider your find for the weekly list, and credit you if you asked for credit. Only send photos you took yourself or have permission to share. If we feature your find, the vehicle details (and your name, if you asked for credit) may appear on the site and in the newsletter.

Cookies and analytics

Right now Rust Rescue doesn't use analytics tools, ad trackers, or its own cookies. Like most web hosts, Netlify keeps standard server logs (things like IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) to run and protect the site. The site also loads fonts from Google Fonts, which means your browser connects to Google's servers to fetch them.

If we add analytics or anything that sets cookies later, we'll update this page first.

Affiliate links and other websites

Rust Rescue links out to listing sites, auction sites, and parts retailers. Some of those links may be affiliate links (see our affiliate disclosure). When you click one, the other site or affiliate network may use cookies or similar tech to track that the visit came from us, so we can earn a commission if you buy. Once you leave Rust Rescue, that site's own privacy policy applies, not this one. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for what they do.

We don't sell your data

We don't sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We only share it with the services we need to run the site (like Netlify for hosting and forms, and whatever email service sends the newsletter), or if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep newsletter emails until you unsubscribe or ask to be removed, and form submissions for as long as they're useful for running the site. You can ask us to delete your info any time.

Your choices

Want to see, fix, or delete what you've sent us, or get off the newsletter? Send a note through the contact form (pick "Privacy request") and we'll take care of it.

Kids

Rust Rescue is meant for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll post the new version here and update the effective date at the top.
